Wanda (Daniel) Wang

Biography

Wanda Wang is a PhD student in Finance at HKU Business School. His research explores topics related to political economy, development economics, and financial and economic history.

His current work utilizes the contents and novel datasets of prehistoric and historical China to examine the origins of the state and government, as well as how historical state-building efforts have shaped long-term economic and financial development.

Wanda has presented his work at the APSA Virtual Research Meeting (2024), Asian Finance Association (AsianFA) Annual Conference (2024), Chinese Economists Society (CES) Annual Conference (2024), the 10th International Symposium on Quantitative History (2024), and the poster session of the Economic History Association (EHA) Annual Meeting (2024). His research has been supported by the Postgraduate Scholarships (PGS) of HKU.

Prior to his PhD studies, Wanda earned a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Finance from HKU in 2020.
